Make like a local and pound the traditional Portuguese paving of Senado Square, the place to be during all public celebrations and events. As Macao's urban center now and in centuries past, nowhere is the history of the Portuguese colonization so omnipresent. Feast your eyes on ice-cream-colored neo-classical structures and take a stroll to the General Post Office and Leal Senado building – Macao's first municipal chamber, and one that's still in use today. Stroll around the courtyard garden, ceremonial meeting room, quainter-than-quaint library and chapel, before doing some souvenir shopping in the surrounding streets and laneways. Or catch a spectacular lion or dragon dance on festival days.
